finished detroit. I think it was pretty interesting, the drama and action of DRUM and Watson's takeover of Wayne-State's newspaper was fun to read. It sort of petered out in the end, not so much the book but the events: they were not moving as fast and mostly ebbing anyway -- the league was okay but that Foreman's outfit was a yawner. I wish they described "the great rebellion" in greater detail. Analysis of economic underpinnings of the automobile production put the struggle nicely in the context. I'd say 4 stars out of 5. ---------------- so far it goes really well. Quickly paced, covers the economic aspects of US car production, touches on decline of militancy in UAW and their cozy relation with the Chrysler management, talks about other oppressed groups in Detroit -- Appalachians and Arabs. Meshes well with Davis -- but sort of an illustration grounded in fact, figures and personal stories. Right now they are covering the takeover of Wayne State's student newspaper. Pretty cool.
